Sabrina C. Agarwal (University of California, Berkeley) is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her interests center on age, sex, and gender-related changes in bone quantity and quality, with a focus on biocultural and life course approaches to bone maintenance, fragility, and stress. She applies this research to broader questions of social identity, embodiment, developmental plasticity, and inequality in bioarchaeology. Her current research is also engaged in the bioethics of skeletal biology and bioarchaeology, specifically the practice of curation and repatriation of human remains, and the history and ethics of eating animals. She is also interested in the philosophies of teaching and actively involved in the pedagogical training of college instructors, and she has been awarded numerous teaching grants and honors, including the UCB Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest campus award for excellence in teaching. She is co-founder of the Western Bioarchaeology Group (WeBiG), the Bioarchaeology Interest Group in the Society for American Archaeology (SAA), and she was co-founding Editor of Bioarchaeology International.
